WASHINGTON, Pennsylvania - Game #15 saw just the second international battle of the 2016 DICK'S Sporting Goods PONY League World Series, a rematch of Game #5 between Los Mochis, Mexico and Chinese Taipei. Once again, the defending champions from the Asia-Pacific Zone looked stellar in a 9-2 Division Finals victory
Two runs came across home plate for Chinese Taipei in the second inning after Lin, Chen Hsun scored on an error by Los Mochis pitcher Maximiliano Campos, who threw the ball away at first base.Though Wang, Hao Che was picked off at first base in a run down, a second run scored for C-T.
Los Mochis cut the deficit in half when it was handed a gift from Chinese Taipei.
With two outs and a runner on third, Chinese Taipei catcher Huang Kai, overthrew second baseman Li, Han Sheng, ultimately scoring Los Mochis first baseman, Rigoberto Borbolla and the lead trimmed to 2-1.
Chinese Taipei had other thoughts, when it hung a two spot in the fourth inning, thanks to a Li, Hau Sheng two-run home run, making it a 4-1 game.Campos' day ended after allowing four runs, two earned, five hits, a walk and five strikeouts in four innings.
Again, Los Mochis scored a run in the top of the fifth, when Borbolla singled in Jose Roman, making it a 4-2 game.
Lin, Chen Hsun put any hopes of a comeback to rest, in the bottom of the fifth, when he hit his fourth home run of the tournament. This one, a two-run home run, made the score 6-2 in favor of the defending champs.
In the bottom of the sixth, it was a sure bet that Chinese Taipei was headed back to the championship game, to defend its title, when Ho, Heng Yu hit a three-run home run to left center making it 9-2 and out of reach.
In a last ditch effort, Los Mochis was unable to bring any runs across in the seventh and lost again to Chinese Taipei, 9-2.
Los Mochis used two relievers, Vicente Valenzuela and Enrique Gastelum, and allowed five runs, all earned, three hits, two walks and three strikeouts in two innings combined.
Lin, Chen Hsun picked up the victory for Chinese Taipei, allowing one unearned run, three hits, two walks and two strikeouts in three innings.Chinese Taipei used two relievers itself, Lin, Tzu Wei and Chang, Hung Chieh, who combined to allow one earned run, three hits, no walks and seven strikeouts over four innings.
Chinese Taipei moves on to play either Maui, Hawaii or Bay County, Michigan in the championship game, tomorrow night at 7:30 p.m.
For Los Mochis, its run in the 2016 DICK'S Sporting Goods PONY League World Series comes to an end after wins against Peters Township (4-1 and 13-9) and Chesterfield, Virginia, 11-7. Both of Los Mochis's loses came against Chinese Taipei, 5-0 and 9-2, respectively.
