Asia-Pacific Zone Champion Taipei County, Chinese Taipei exploded for seven runs in the top of the seventh en route to a 12-1 victory over North Zone Champion Bay County, MI in game five of the 2018 Dick’s Sporting Goods Pony League World Series.

Through the first six innings, Chinese Taipei held a 5-1 lead and had just two hits over that stretch, but was able to get to Bay County pitching and accumulate four hits, including RBI doubles by shortstop Huang, Bo-Rui and third baseman Chen, Cheng- Yi.

Chinese Taipei opened the scoring in the top of the second with a three-run home run by right fielder Huang, Po-Wei to take a 3-0 lead, while also scoring a single run in each the third and fifth innings on a sacrifice fly and a Bay County error, one of five for the North Zone Champions on the day.

The Chinese Taipei pitching staff was locked in as a unit, combining to allow just one run, three hits, two walks and 11 strikeouts. The winning pitcher was starter Tien, Tzu-Chieh, who struck out six of the 11

For Bay County, its lone bright spot offensively came in the fourth inning when left fielder Chase Raymond drove in catcher Micah Irrer with an RBI double to cut the lead to 4-1 at the time.

Starting pitcher Blaise Millar took the loss for Bay County as he allowed three runs, one hit, one walk and three strikeouts.

Six relief pitchers took to the mound for Bay County and they combined to allow nine runs (eight earned), five hits, two walks and struck out four over five innings.

With the victory, Chinese Taipei moves on in the winner’s bracket to face Host Area Zone Champion Youngstown, OH at 5:30 p.m. ET-USA tomorrow. For Bay County, it enters the loser’s bracket and will play an elimination game tomorrow at 10 a.m ET-USA vs either Caribbean Zone Champion Yaguate, Dominican Republic or European Zone Champion Vienna, Austria.
