GM #12: Long Beach, CA 8 Tijuana, Mexico 2 (F/5)


West Zone Champion Long Beach, CA Ryan Geck’s two-run home run highlighted a seven run bottom of the third and Long Beach cruised to an 8-2 victory in game twelve of the 2018 Dick’s Sporting Goods Pony League World Series over Mexico Zone Champion Tijuana, MX.

Along with Geck’s home run, Long Beach connected on five more hits in the seven run third inning and took a 7-1 lead at the time.

Tijuana led the game briefly at one point, 1-0 in the top of the second, on an RBI single by Ian Zamarippa.

Zamarippa started the game on the mound and set down the first seven Long Beach batters in order before the onslaught started in the third inning. Zamarippa allowed three runs, three hits, two walks and struck out five in his 2.1 innings of work.

Tijuana’s relief pitching consisted of Ivan Rodriguez and Miguel Sepulveda who combined to allow five runs, four hits, four walks and three strikeouts.

Long Beach got a complete game on the hill from starter Jake Ehmann as he allowed two runs, three hits, two walks and struck out ten over the five innings.

With the victory, Long Beach returns to the field later today with a game set to start at approximately 7 p.m. against either South Zone Champion Brownsville, TX or a rematch against Tijuana.

Tijuana will play at approximately 3 p.m. in a win or go home elimination game against Brownsville, TX.
