South Hills Qualifies for the 2025 Printscape PONY League World Series as Host-Area Team

Washington, PA - South Hills has qualified for the 2025 Printscape PONY League World Series presented by DICK’S Sporting Goods as the Host-Area Tournament Champions.

In a 14-team tournament, the South Hills PONY League team went 6-1. South Hills PONY League blazed through their tournament slate with an almost unbeaten run, starting with a dominant 17-0 shutout over NCAA. They followed it up with a tight 1-2 loss against Youngstown, then blanked Butler 10-0. South Hills stayed hot with a 7-2 win over 376 PONY League and kept the bats alive in a 13-3 rout of Mt. Lebanon. They survived a scare in a 6-5 thriller against Youngstown before sealing the deal with another explosive 13-6 victory over the same squad, securing their spot for the championship game. In the championship game they defeated Johnstown 6-5 securing their spot in the 2025 PONY League World Series.

South Hills is coached by former Pittsburgh Pirate Pitcher Chris Peters and assistant coach John Koutsogiani, who brings experience from previous PLWS appearances.

“We put this team together in early June, held a tryout, and had a couple practices before I had to leave town,” said Koutsogiani. “By July, we were only meeting twice a week at most, and even then, not everyone could be there. We had just one scrimmage before the Host tournament, so I’m amazed at how quickly these kids came together.”

Koutsogiani praised the team’s depth and versatility, especially on the mound and behind the plate. “Our strength is definitely in pitching,” he said. “We also have strong catching, which is huge for managing games. And we’ve got a lot of position flexibility, which gives us options.”

The team is focusing on scrimmaging under the lights and sharpening game-day chemistry to prepare for the competition. “We’re practicing as much as possible and getting reps under the lights so the guys are comfortable,” said Koutsogiani. “At this point, it’s about staying focused and not getting distracted by everything going on around the tournament.”

With local pride, professional leadership, and a roster full of potential, South Hills is ready to compete on youth baseball’s biggest stage.Watch South Hills compete in Game 2 of the 2025 Printscape PONY League World Series Presented by DICK’S Sporting Goods on Friday August 8 at 7:30 PM ET.
