WASHINGTON, Pennsylvania - Game #14 was a battle between Laredo, Texas and Bay County, Michigan in the second guaranteed elimination game of the day and a rematch of Game #3. Bay County's Anthony Bernard proved to be the hero, as his sixth inning, pinch hit three-run home run proved to be the nail in the coffin for Laredo's Division Finals hopes.
Unlike most game in the 2016 DICK'S Sporting Goods PONY League World Series, it was relatively quiet to start.
The only run scored over the first two and a half innings, came on a solo home run by Laredo catcher Roberto Coronado, making the score 1-0.
Bay County starting pitcher Darren LaBean threw three quality innings, allowing one run, earned, three hits, a walk and three strikeouts during his time on the hill.
In the bottom of the fourth Bay County finally got to Laredo starting pitcher Greg Campos, when Luke Stuhr contributed an RBI groundout to tie the score at 1-1.
Fast-forward to the bottom of the sixth, when Bay County scored the leading run on a passed ball/error in the same sequence, allowing LaBean to score and give Bay County a 2-1 edge.
After the run, Campos was relieved of his duties, allowing two runs, both earned, four hits, three walks and nine strikeouts over five-plus frames.
Bay County added on in the sixth, when Bernard came off the bench and belted a three-run home run, expanding the lead to 5-1.
Galvan picks up the loss, allowing two runs, both earned, two hits and two strikeouts over two innings.
Ben Cnudde picks up the win allowing no runs or hits, two walks and two strikeouts over four innings.
Bay County got sweet revenge against Laredo, after losing Game #3 to the Texans 5-4, and now faces Maui, Hawaii in Game #16 tonight at 8 p.m.For Laredo, its run for the 2016 DICK'S Sporting Goods PONY League World Series championship comes to an end after a 6-5 defeat against Maui last night and today's loss to Bay County.
