GM #6: Long Beach, CA 8 Bronx, NY 0 (F/7)

Offense was limited for West Zone Champion Long Beach, CA in its first game at the 2018 Dick’s Sporting Goods Pony League World Series as they only were able to muster four hits. However, Long Beach took advantage of eight walks, three errors and four hit batters by the East zone Champion Bronx, NY pitching staff on its way to a decisive 8-0 victory in game six of the tournament.

Long Beach did its damage in the third and fourth innings, scoring seven runs between the two frames. Surprisingly enough, that was the two innings Long Beach collected its four total hits for the game.

RBI singles by first baseman Ryan Skjonsby, center fielder Adam Cramer drove in a run each in the third and fourth respectively, and catcher Bren Wilkinson added a two-RBI double in the fourth as well to highlight the Long Beach offense.

For Bronx, offensively, it was led by Julian Ventura, Miguel Bodre and Keldrin Rodriguez with one hit apiece

On the mound, Long Beach’s Myles Patton picked up the win after allowing no hits through his two innings of work, one walk and four strikeouts. In relief, three Long Beach pitchers combined to throw five innings and allow just three hits, one walk and struck out four as well.

Miguel Bodre took the loss for Bronx, allowing one run, no hits, three walks and struck out one in 1.2 innings. However, the Bronx used four pitchers out of the bullpen who combined for 4.1 innings and allowed seven runs (five earned), four hits, five walks and struck out six.

With the victory, Long Beach moves on in the winner’s bracket to face Mexico Zone Champion Tijuana, MX at 8 p.m. ET-USA tomorrow. For Bronx, it enters the loser’s bracket and will play an elimination game tomorrow at 12:30 p.m ET-USA vs either South Zone Champion Brownsville, TX or Host Washington County, PA.
