WASHINGTON, PA., Aug. 13, 2025 – Asia-Pacific Zone champion Chinese Taipei rallied from an early deficit to defeat Host Area champion Washington County, Pennsylvania, 6–4, and claim the 2025 PONY League World Series championship on Wednesday night.

Washington County struck first with a run in the fourth and extended its lead to 3–0 in the fifth, highlighted by a solo home run from Kaden Harkins and an RBI double from Lucas Daniels. Chinese Taipei responded in the bottom of the fifth, plating four runs to seize the lead. Zi-Han Yang delivered a two-run single, while Yu-Tang Li added an RBI double to right-center.

Taipei added two insurance runs in the sixth on a Chieh-Yu Sung sacrifice fly and En Chen’s RBI. Washington County scored once more in the seventh on Luke Henderson’s RBI single but could not complete the comeback.

Yang earned the win on the mound for Chinese Taipei, allowing three runs on seven hits over five innings. Chen closed the game with two innings of relief, striking out four. Daniels and Carson Simmers each had two hits for Washington County, while Henderson drove in two runs. Li led the Taipei offense with two hits and an RBI.

Chinese Taipei finishes the tournament with a 6–1 record, securing its 11th PLWS title. Washington County concludes its run at 3–1 as the 2025 runner-up.

GAME 17: Taichung, Chinese Taipei 5, Simi Valley, CA 2

WASHINGTON, PA., Aug. 13, 2025 – Asia-Pacific Zone champion Chinese Taipei earned its spot in the 2025 PONY League World Series Championship Game with a 5–2 victory over West Zone champion Simi Valley, California, in Wednesday morning’s “if necessary” semifinal.

Chinese Taipei jumped ahead in the top of the first when En Chen doubled and scored on Zong Quan’s RBI single. They extended the lead in the second, plating three runs on a combination of timely hits and situational execution — including sacrifice bunts from Tang-You Zhang and Chieh-Lin, and a run-scoring hit by Quan. Shih-Min Chung was hit by a pitch and later scored, and Yu-Tang Li added a double in the frame.

A one-out double by Chen in the third set up another run, pushing the lead to 5–0. From there, starter Zong Quan controlled the game, holding Simi Valley scoreless through five innings.

Simi Valley broke through in the sixth when Kade Monica singled, Braedon Halverson doubled, and Tristan Theobald delivered an RBI single. A wild pitch brought in a second run, but Chen entered in relief to end the threat.

Quan earned the win, tossing 6.1 innings, allowing three hits and two earned runs while striking out nine. Chen closed the door with two strikeouts in two-thirds of an inning. Halverson paced Simi Valley’s offense with a 2-for-3 day, including a double, while Monica and Theobald each added a hit.

With the win, Chinese Taipei advances to face Host Area champion Washington County, Pennsylvania, in the Championship Game on Wednesday, Aug. 13, at 7:00 p.m. Simi Valley is eliminated from the tournament with a final record of 3–2.

Game 16: Washington County, PA 11, Corpus Christi, TX 0 (5 INNINGS)

WASHINGTON, PA., Aug. 12, 2025 – Host Area champion Washington County, Pennsylvania, powered its way into the championship game of the 2025 PONY League World Series with an 11–0, five-inning win over South Zone champion Corpus Christi, Texas, in Game 16 on Tuesday night.

Washington County jumped out to a fast start with two runs in the first inning, highlighted by an RBI triple from Niko Vitale and a run-scoring single by Carson Simmers. The hosts extended their lead with three more runs in the second, including a two-run double from Kaden Harkins.

The offensive surge continued in the third with an RBI single from Simmers, followed by a run-scoring hit from Keegan Widenhofer in the fourth. Washington County put the game out of reach in the fifth, plating four more runs, capped by a two-run home run from catcher Lucas Daniels.

Washington County collected 10 hits in the win, led by Harkins (2-for-4, two RBI), Widenhofer (2-for-4, RBI), and Daniels (1-for-3, two RBI). Ethan Amos doubled and scored twice, while Vitale tripled, scored twice, and drove in a run.

Pitcher Clint Havanais was dominant, tossing a complete-game one-hitter with seven strikeouts and no walks. The only hit allowed came from Corpus Christi’s Lincoln Ketter in the second inning.

With the victory, Washington County advances directly to the PLWS Championship Game on Wednesday, Aug. 13, at 7:00 p.m., where they will face the winner of the “if necessary” Game 17 between Chinese Taipei and Simi Valley, California. Corpus Christi was eliminated from the tournament and finishes with a final record of 2–2.

Game 15: Simi Valley, CA 3, Taichung, Chinese Taipei 5

WASHINGTON, PA., Aug. 12, 2025 – Asia-Pacific Zone champion Chinese Taipei kept its tournament hopes alive on Tuesday afternoon, defeating West Zone champion Simi Valley, California, 5–3, in Game 15 of the 2025 PONY League World Series to force an “if necessary” rematch.

Chinese Taipei struck early when En Chen doubled to lead off the game and scored on Chih-Yu Sung’s RBI single. Moments later, Zi-Han Yang brought home another run on a fielder’s choice to make it 2–0. Sung delivered again in the third inning with another RBI single, and Yu-Tang Li added a base hit to extend the rally.

The decisive blow came in the sixth, when the Asia-Pacific champions plated two more runs. Shih-Min Chung singled and later scored, while Zhi-Hao Lin executed a key sacrifice to push the lead to 5–0.

Simi Valley mounted a rally in the bottom of the sixth. Sawyer Jackson reached on an error, Nate Griswold singled, and Ean Devine delivered a two-run double. Smith added an RBI groundout to make it 5–3, but Chung worked out of the jam to preserve the lead.

Ting-Han Hung earned the win, tossing 3.2 scoreless innings, allowing four hits with two strikeouts. Chung recorded the save, surrendering three unearned runs over 3.1 innings. Griswold took the loss for Simi Valley.

With the victory, Chinese Taipei forces an “if necessary” Game 17 rematch versus Simi Valley on Wednesday, Aug. 13, at 9:00 a.m. The winner will advance to the PLWS Championship Game.

Game 14: Corpus Christi, TX 9, Bay County, MI 4

WASHINGTON, PA., Aug. 12, 2025 – South Zone champion Corpus Christi, Texas, struck for six runs in the second inning on the way to a 9–4 win over North Zone champion Bay County, Michigan, in Game 14 of the 2025 PONY League World Series on Tuesday afternoon.

Corpus Christi opened the scoring in the first inning when John Dylan Carvajal singled home a run. The decisive second inning saw 11 batters come to the plate, with RBI singles from Lincoln Ketter and Francisco Macias, and a run-scoring hit from Gabriel Trevino helping push the lead to 6–0. By the fourth inning, the South Zone representatives led 7–0.

Bay County responded with two runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth, fueled by hits from Mason Krager, Brody Kuhn, and Landon Deford, but Corpus Christi’s offense added insurance in the seventh. Carvajal finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI, Joshua Garcia went 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Ketter added a 2-for-4 day with an RBI.

Starting pitcher John De Los Santos earned the win for Corpus Christi, allowing four runs (two earned) on seven hits over 6.2 innings while striking out six and walking one. Jedediah Smith closed the game by recording the final out. Bay County starter Kwess Mathews was charged with five runs in 1.1 innings before Krager threw 5.2 innings in relief.

With the win, Corpus Christi advances to face Host Area champion Washington County, Pennsylvania, in Game 16 on Wednesday, Aug. 13, at 7:00 p.m., where Washington County would need to be beaten twice to be eliminated. Bay County is eliminated from the tournament with a final record of 2–2.

Game 13: Monterrey, Mexico 0, Taichung, Chinese Taipei 13 (5 INNINGS)

WASHINGTON, PA., Aug. 12, 2025 – Asia-Pacific Zone champion Chinese Taipei delivered a dominant two-hit shutout, defeating Mexico Zone champion Monterrey, Mexico, 13–0, in five innings in Game 13 of the 2025 PONY League World Series at Lew Hays PONY Field on Tuesday morning.

Chinese Taipei opened the scoring in the first inning on En Chen’s solo home run and steadily built its lead with two runs in the second and three in the fourth. The decisive blow came in the fifth, when the Asia-Pacific champions sent 12 batters to the plate and scored seven runs. Ting-Han Hung led the offense with a home run, three hits, and two RBIs. Yu-Tang Li also homered and doubled, driving in two runs, while Chen reached base three times and scored twice. Chieh-Yu Sung added three hits, including a double, and three RBIs.

On the mound, Hung earned the win, tossing four scoreless innings, allowing one hit, and striking out five. Chieh-Yu Sung pitched a scoreless fifth to seal the victory. Monterrey’s two hits came from Abdiel Zavala and Santiago Villanueva.

With the victory, Chinese Taipei advances to face Simi Valley, CA at 4:30pm. Monterrey is eliminated from the 2025 PONY League World Series with a final tournament record of 1–2.

Game 12: Washington County, PA 10, Corpus Christi, TX 5

WASHINGTON, PA., Aug. 11, 2025 – Host Area champion Washington County, Pennsylvania, used a six-run fourth inning and power from Braxten Thompson and Lucas Daniels to defeat South Zone champion Corpus Christi, Texas, 10–5, in Game 12 of the 2025 PONY League World Series.

Corpus Christi jumped out to a 2–1 lead after the first inning, thanks to an RBI single by John Dylan Carvajal and a run-scoring hit from John De Los Santos. Washington County surged ahead in the second on Kaden Harkins’ RBI single and never looked back. The decisive fourth inning featured Thompson’s grand slam over the left-field wall and Daniels’ two-run homer to center, extending the lead to 10–4.

Carson Simmers paced the Host Area offense with three hits, including a double, while Harkins and Andrew Irwin each added RBI doubles. Winning pitcher Ryan Lukas struck out two over four innings, while Niko Vitale and Keegan Widenhofer combined for three scoreless frames in relief.

With the victory, Washington County advances to Semifinal Game 16 on Tuesday, Aug. 12, where their opponent must beat them twice to reach the championship (Game 18 if necessary game). Corpus Christi moves into Game 14 on Tuesday, Aug. 12, at 12:30 p.m., where they will face North Zone champion Bay County, Michigan, in an elimination matchup.

Game 11: Monterrey, Mexico 1, Simi Valley, CA 4

WASHINGTON, PA., Aug. 11, 2025 – West Zone champion Simi Valley, California, rode six-plus innings of strong pitching from Riely Loggins and timely hitting to defeat Mexico Zone champion Monterrey, Mexico, 4–1, in Game 11 of the 2025 PONY League World Series.

Simi Valley struck first in the second inning, plating three runs on five consecutive hits, including RBI singles from Kade Monica and RJ Terp. Monterrey cut the deficit to 3–1 in the fourth inning when courtesy runner Nicolas Figueroa scored on a fielder’s choice, but Loggins and reliever Nate Griswold shut the door the rest of the way.

Loggins earned the win, tossing 6.2 innings and allowing just one run on four hits while striking out eight. Griswold recorded the final out for the save. At the plate, Griswold went 2-for-3 with a run scored, and Wyatt Ruiz added an RBI single. Monterrey’s offense was led by Leonardo Cuevas, who collected two of the team’s four hits.

With the victory, Simi Valley advances to Semifinal Game 15, where their opponent must defeat them twice to advance to the championship (Game 17 if necessary game). Monterrey will face Asia-Pacific Zone champion Chinese Taipei in Game 13 on Tuesday, Aug. 12, at 10:00 a.m., with the loser eliminated from the tournament.

Game 10: South Hills, PA 5, Bay County, MI 6

WASHINGTON, PA., Aug. 11, 2025 – North Zone champion Bay County, Michigan, used timely hitting from Jace Melick and strong relief pitching from Brody Kuhn to defeat Host Area representative South Hills, Pennsylvania, 6–5, in Game 10 of the 2025 PONY League World Series.

Bay County took a 2–0 lead in the top of the first on Melick’s RBI single and an error, but South Hills answered with three runs in the bottom half, capped by Drew Opferman’s two-run homer. The teams traded runs in the second and third innings before Melick tied the game with a solo home run in the sixth. The North Zone champions pushed across the decisive run in the seventh on Melick’s RBI double.

Melick finished 3-for-3 with a double, home run, two RBIs, and two runs scored. Kuhn earned the win with 6.1 innings of relief, allowing just two earned runs on four hits while striking out four. Opferman powered South Hills’ offense with two home runs and four RBIs.

With the victory, Bay County advances to face the loser of Game 12 between Washington County, Pennsylvania, and Corpus Christi, Texas, in Game 14 on Tuesday, Aug. 12, at 12:30 p.m. South Hills is eliminated from the 2025 PONY League World Series with a final tournament record of 1–2.

GAME 9: Barranquilla, Colombia 0, Taichung, Chinese Taipei 21 (4 INNINGS)

WASHINGTON, PA., Aug. 11, 2025 – Asia-Pacific Zone champion Chinese Taipei scored in every inning, including a 12-run fourth, to defeat Caribbean Zone champion Barranquilla, Colombia, 21–0, in a four-inning mercy-rule victory in Game 9 of the 2025 PONY League World Series at Historic Lew Hays PONY Field on Monday morning.

Chinese Taipei jumped out quickly with five runs in the first inning, highlighted by a two-run triple from En-Ting Chen and a two-run double by Yu-Chieh Sung. Chen reached base three times, going 2-for-3 with three RBIs and three runs scored. Catcher Zong Quan was 3-for-4 with three doubles, three RBIs, and three runs scored, while Chieh Sung homered and drove in three. In total, the Asia-Pacific champions collected 16 hits from eight different players.

On the mound, Zong Yang earned the win, striking out five over three innings while allowing just one hit. Liu Wu closed with a scoreless fourth, striking out one. Colombia’s lone hit came from catcher Antonio Morales.

With the victory, Chinese Taipei advances to play the loser of Game 11 between Monterrey, Mexico, and Simi Valley, California, in Game 13 on Tuesday, Aug. 12, at 10:00 a.m. Colombia is eliminated from the 2025 PONY League World Series with a final tournament record of 0–2.

Game 8: Grosseto, Italy 3, Bay County, MI 12

WASHINGTON, PA. Aug. 10, 2025 - North Zone champion Bay County, Michigan, erupted for 12 runs on 11 hits to defeat Europe Zone champion Italy, 12–3, in Game 8 of the 2025 PONY League World Series at Historic Lew Hays PONY Field on Sunday evening, keeping their championship hopes alive.

Bay County wasted no time, scoring in each of the first four innings. Mason Krager’s RBI double in the first put the North Zone champions on the board, and Brody Kuhn’s RBI triple in the second extended the lead. After Italy tied the game at 2–2 in the bottom of the second, Bay County responded with a run in the fourth and broke the game open with two runs in the fifth, two in the sixth, and a five-run seventh inning.

Kuhn led the offensive charge, going 2-for-4 with a double, triple, and two RBIs, while Krager added two hits and two RBIs. Landon Deford drove in a run and scored twice, and Aaron Kain reached base three times, scoring two runs. On the mound, starter Camdyn Pease allowed just one hit over 2.2 innings, and reliever Kwess Mathew earned the win with 2.2 no-hit innings and five strikeouts.

Italy’s lone hit came from Leonardo Faccincani, whose RBI double in the second tied the game temporarily. Italy’s pitching staff combined for seven walks and six strikeouts.

With the victory, Bay County advances to face Host Area representative South Hills, Pennsylvania, in Game 10 on Monday, Aug. 11, at 12:30 p.m. Italy is eliminated from the 2025 PONY League World Series with a final tournament record of 0–2.

Game 7: Bronx, NY 2, Taichung, Chinese Taipei 14

WASHINGTON, PA. Aug. 10, 2025 – Asia-Pacific Zone champion Chinese Taipei exploded for 14 runs on 13 hits to defeat East Zone champion Bronx, New York, 14–2, in Game 7 of the 2025 PONY League World Series Sunday afternoon.

Chinese Taipei wasted no time, scoring three runs in the top of the first inning, highlighted by Zi-Han Yang’s RBI double. Yang reached base in all five plate appearances, going 3-for-3 with four runs scored, two walks, and three RBIs. The Asia-Pacific champions steadily added to their lead, posting runs in six of seven innings, including a five-run seventh inning that put the game out of reach.

Yu-Tang Li was stellar on the mound for Chinese Taipei, tossing 4.1 shutout innings, allowing just one hit and striking out seven. Chieh Lin closed the game with two scoreless frames. For Bronx, Anthony Basilio’s RBI single in the sixth and Bryan Cuevas’ run-scoring hit accounted for their two runs.

Li, Yu-Chieh Sung, and Tang-You Zhang each drove in multiple runs for Chinese Taipei, while eight different players recorded a hit.

With the victory, Chinese Taipei advances to play Caribbean Zone champion Barranquilla, Colombia, in elimination Game 9 on Monday, Aug. 11, at 10:00 a.m. The winner of that matchup will face the loser of Game 6 (Corpus Christi, TX vs. Washington County, PA) later in the tournament. Bronx is eliminated from the 2025 PONY League World Series, finishing with a tournament record of 0–2.

Game 6: Barranquilla, Colombia 6, Corpus Christi, TX 12

WASHINGTON, PA, Aug. 10, 2025 – South Zone champion Corpus Christi, Texas, used a seven-run fourth inning to overcome an early deficit and defeat Caribbean Zone champion Barranquilla, Colombia, 12–6, in Game 6 of the 2025 PONY League World Series.

Colombia jumped ahead quickly with four runs in the first inning, highlighted by Edwin Ballestas' grand slam to left-center. Lucas Fischer’s RBI single in the second extended the lead to 5–0. Corpus Christi began chipping away in the bottom of the second on a two-run single by Gabriel Trevino, and tied the game in the third inning.

The decisive fourth inning saw the South Zone champions send 11 batters to the plate. Trevino’s three-run home run gave Corpus Christi the lead for good, while Nathan Torres and John De Los Santos added run-scoring singles. In total, Trevino finished 2-for-3 with four RBIs, and De Los Santos collected three hits.

On the mound, Joshuah Garcia earned the win, striking out nine over 5.1 innings while allowing five hits and four earned runs. Oscar Cavazos III and Jedediah Smith combined for 1.2 scoreless innings in relief. Fischer and Luis Avila each recorded two hits for Colombia.

With the victory, Corpus Christi advances to face Host Area champion Washington County, Pennsylvania, in Game 12 on Monday, Aug. 11, at 7:00 p.m. Barranquilla will play in Game 9 on Monday, Aug. 11, at 10:00 a.m. against the winner of Game 7 between Asia-Pacific Zone champion Chinese Taipei and East Zone champion Bronx, New York.

Game 5: South Hills, PA 6, Monterrey, Mexico 7 (8 INNINGS)

WASHINGTON, PA, Aug. 9, 2025 – Mexico Zone champion Monterrey, Mexico, overcame multiple South Hills, Pennsylvania, rallies to claim a 7–6 victory in eight innings in Game 5 of the 2025 PONY League World Series at Historic Lew Hays PONY Field on Saturday evening.

The first inning set the tone as Monterrey capitalized on five walks issued by South Hills starter Gavin Stock to score three runs without the benefit of a hit. South Hills, the Host Area champion, responded in the top of the first with two runs, fueled by a single from Brody Cole and a sacrifice fly by Johnny Parris.

After a two-run fifth inning by South Hills tied the game at 5–5, Monterrey regained the lead in the seventh when Sergio Guajardo’s RBI single plated Abdiel Zavala. The Host Area squad answered again in the top of the seventh on a solo home run by Jonah Koontz, knotting the game at 6–6. In the bottom of the eighth, Monterrey’s Angel Ponce delivered the decisive blow with a walk-off solo home run to right field.

Guajardo finished 2-for-4 with three RBIs for Monterrey, while Ponce scored twice and drove in two. For South Hills, Koontz led the way with two hits and three RBIs, and Parris doubled and drove in two runs. Santiago Villanueva earned the win in relief for Monterrey, striking out 10 over 4.1 innings, while Dylan Koehler took the loss for South Hills.

With the victory, Monterrey advances to face West Zone champion Simi Valley, California, in Game 10 on Monday, Aug. 11, at 4:30 p.m. South Hills will play in an elimination matchup in Game 10 versus the winner of Game 8 between the winner of Italy and Bay County.

Game 3: Grosseto, Italy 2, Washington County, PA 12 (5 INNINGS)

WASHINGTON, PA. Aug. 9, 2025 – Host Area representative Washington County, Pennsylvania, used a balanced offensive attack and dominant pitching to defeat Europe Zone champion Grosseto, Italy, 12–2, in a five-inning, run-rule victory.

Washington County struck first in the opening frame on an RBI single by third baseman Ryan Lukas. Italy responded in the top of the third when shortstop Riccardo Belicchi’s groundout brought home Marco Giusti, who had reached on a single earlier in the inning. The hosts replied with a three-run third, capped by Lukas’ RBI double to reclaim the lead.

In the fourth, Washington County sent 11 batters to the plate, scoring six runs on seven hits, fueled by Niko Vitale’s two-run single and Kaden Harkins’ RBI knock. Harkins added a two-run home run in the fifth to punctuate the offensive outburst.

Braxten Thompson earned the win, allowing one hit and one run over 3.1 shutout innings with five strikeouts, while Keegan Widenhofer closed the game with three strikeouts in 1.2 innings of relief. Lukas and Vitale both finished with two-hit, multi-RBI games; Luke Henderson and Jackson Greene also contributed multi-hit efforts. Leading Italy, Giusti collected two hits, and Nicolo Dal Castello added an RBI single.

With the win, Washington County advances to face the winner of Game 4: Corpus Christi, Texas vs Bay County, Michigan in Game 8 on Sunday, Aug. 10, at 5:00 p.m. Italy will play in the elimination Game 6 on Sunday, Aug. 10, at 12:30 p.m., against the loser of that same matchup (Corpus Christi vs Bay County).

Game 4: Corpus Christi, TX 8, Bay County, MI 3 (10 INNINGS)

WASHINGTON, PA, Aug. 9, 2025 – South Zone champion Corpus Christi, Texas, erupted for six runs in the 10th inning to defeat North Zone champion Bay County, Michigan, 8–3, in Game 4 of the 2025 PONY League World Series.

The game was a pitcher’s duel early, with starters Lincoln Ketter of Corpus Christi and Carter Maze of Bay County matching zeros through two innings. Corpus Christi broke through in the third when Gabriel Trevino doubled to score Nathan Torres. Bay County answered immediately with an RBI single by Mason Krager in the bottom half.

From there, the bullpens took over, with neither team scoring again until the eighth, when both sides plated a run to make it 2–2. The decisive 10th inning saw Corpus Christi send 12 batters to the plate. John De Los Santos delivered the game’s biggest blow with a bases-clearing double, part of a 5-for-6 day with three doubles and two RBIs. Trevino added another RBI, and Torres contributed a run-scoring single to cap the rally.

Juan Villegas earned the win in relief, working four innings and allowing two runs on seven hits. Ketter tossed five strong innings to open the game, yielding only one unearned run. Maze struck out eight over six innings for Bay County, while Landon Deford was tagged with the loss in relief.

With the victory, Corpus Christi advances to face Caribbean Zone champion Baranquilla, Colombia, in Game 6 on Sunday, Aug. 10, at 12:00 p.m. Bay County will play Europe Zone champion Italy in the elimination Game 6 on Sunday, Aug. 10, at 8:00 p.m.

Game 2: Bronx, NY 2, South Hills, PA 4

WASHINGTON, PA. Aug. 8, 2025 – Host Area champion South Hills, Pennsylvania, capitalized on a decisive third inning to secure a 4–2 win over Bronx, New York, in Game 2 of the 2025 PONY League World Series at Historic Lew Hays PONY Field on Friday night.

Bronx opened the scoring in the first inning when Joseph Calderon reached on a walk and scored on a Bryan Cuevas RBI single. South Hills responded in the bottom of the third with a three-run frame, highlighted by Johnny Parris’ two-run double into the left-center gap. Gavin Stock added a single in the inning and went on to reach base in all four plate appearances, drawing three walks and recording a stolen base.

Strong relief pitching preserved the South Hills lead. After starter James Snyder worked 1.2 innings, Jonah Koontz tossed 2.1 scoreless innings to earn the win, followed by steady appearances from Brody Cole and Stock. Bronx threatened in the seventh when Cuevas drove in his second RBI of the game, but Stock closed the door for the save.

Cole led the South Hills offense with a 2-for-4 effort, including a double, while Parris finished with three RBIs. Cuevas paced Bronx with two hits and two RBIs.

With the win, South Hills advances to Game 5 against Monterrey, Mexico on Saturday at 5:00pm. Bronx will face Chinese Taipei in an elimination game in Game 7 on Sunday, Aug. 10, at 2:30 p.m.

Game 1: Taichung, Chinese Taipei 5, Simi Valley 6

WASHINGTON, PA. Aug. 8, 2025 – Simi Valley, California, overcame an early deficit to defeat Chinese Taipei, 6–5, in the opening round of the 2025 PONY League World Series at Historic Lew Hays PONY Field on Friday evening.

Chinese Taipei wasted no time striking first when shortstop En Chen launched the fifth pitch of the game over the left-field fence for a solo home run. Simi Valley responded quickly in the bottom of the first with back-to-back run-producing hits from center fielder Braedon Halverson and catcher Tristan Theobald to take a 2–1 lead.

The two teams traded blows throughout the contest. Chinese Taipei tied the game in the third on a Zi-Han Yang RBI double, then moved ahead 3–2 in the fourth on Chieh-Yu Sung’s two-base hit. Simi Valley’s pitching and timely hitting kept the game within reach, despite Taipei adding single runs in the fifth and sixth innings on RBI singles from Shih-Min Chung and Chen, respectively.

Trailing 5–3 entering the bottom of the sixth, Simi Valley mounted its decisive rally. Halverson’s single ignited the frame, followed by Theobald’s run-scoring hit and a key RBI double from Riely Loggins to knot the score. First baseman Trenten Nelson’s sacrifice fly plated the go-ahead run, giving Simi Valley its first lead since the second inning.

Halverson paced Simi Valley’s 11-hit attack, going 3-for-4 with an RBI, while Theobald and Loggins each added two hits and two RBIs. Chen led all hitters for Chinese Taipei with a 3-for-3 performance, collecting a home run, double, single, and three RBIs.

Kade Monica earned the win in relief for Simi Valley, tossing 1.1 innings and allowing just one run on one hit.

Halverson recorded the save with a scoreless seventh inning. Yu-Tang Li took the loss for Chinese Taipei.

With the victory, Simi Valley advances to Game 9 on Sunday, Aug. 10, at 6:00 p.m. against the winner of Game 6. Chinese Taipei will play in an elimination matchup in Game 7 on Sunday, Aug. 10, at 2:30 p.m. against the loser of Game 2 between South Hills, Pennsylvania, and Bronx, New York.
